Hi. We are Robyn and Johnathan of Depart Routine.
We are both from Toronto, Canada. In January of 2022 we decided to take an adventurous leap and gave our employers notice, we were leaving our jobs.
Johnathan left his role in Security and I a career in Condominium Property Management. We bought a one-way ticket to Egypt and left home on February 7, 2022. Traveling full time was now our reality. Not just a dream. We needed to Depart our 9-5 Routine and get back to the us we remembered.
For the first time ever, we didn’t have a return flight home. We had not booked every accommodation nor had an hourly plan for our days. We were planning on the go and only had a rough estimate of where we should be in what month.
Since then, we have booked some accommodations 1 hour before arrival while on a road trip in Turkey. Had all our credit cards compromised while in Spain, Hiked amazing vistas in Scotland, Dominica, and Peru. Cruised the coast of Croatia, Island hopped through more than 13 Greek islands. Explored the Castles of Denmark, Ireland, England and more in Europe. Chassed cherry blossom blooms in Japan. Tried not to get hit by a car walking in Thailand and Indonesia. Met welcoming locals in Singapore, Malaysia and more.
We began pet sitting 6 months into our adventure and discovered that pets were a big part of what we missed with a nomadic lifestyle. Then 3 months later we had our first home exchange as a guest after hosting for a few months. We loved discovering new alternative accommodation methods and we were hooked. We prefer alternative accommodations to traditional ones as it makes the adventure just that much better
We travel to see new landscapes, experience new cultures, and learn about history from the places where these events happened.
We love to hike, explore good museums, see all those tourist attractions, and interact with locals We are not foodies, we don’t party, drink or smoke. We don’t stay at fancy hotels (unless their free), you won’t see us in a shared dorm at a Hostel, but we love utilizing alternative forms of accommodations such as Home Exchanging, Pet/House Sitting for their comfort levels, budget consciousness and local connections. Come along as we share our journey with you, we have so much to discover and stories to tell.
